The goal was to pick our one favorite book of all time. Unfortunately, I could not choose my favorite book! It was a tough challenge, but I narrowed all my favorite book's down to my absolute 3 favorites.
In no particular order, they are: Many Waters by Madeleine L'Engle, In the Time I Get by Chris Crutcher, and Looking for Alaska by John Green.
Many Waters is one of the best sci-fi books I have ever read. It is in the same series of books as A Wrinkle in Time (which almost made the list) and overall was just an incredibly written book. One of my favorite elements of it was that it used time travel, but was not cliché. It also went back to a time period that is never talked about in young adult literature. The time period was described so well I felt like I was in the desert with the characters.
In the Time I Get was a short story, but still had bigger impact on me than most novels I have ever read. It was in a collection of short stories by author Chris Crutcher, but stood out to me as one of my favorite stories. The ending was heartbreaking, but I'm not going to spoil it here. One of the best parts about In the Time I Get is that it deals with social issues that still are a problem today. In the end, it teaches a lesson that I will always remember.
Looking for Alaska by John Green was so good I read it in a day (I did that with his other books too). The emotions of the characters were very believable, which added to the great plot of the story. The ending of this book got me thinking, and to me, that signifies a great book. Looking for Alaska also had one of my favorite settings in a book: boarding school. Overall, I think this is a YA book everyone teen should read.
